Fred Wehling, president of Amerilab Technologies, Minneapolis, MN, acknowledged that entrenched consumer patterns can take time to overcome. “One of the challenges of a new delivery system is the modification of old habits, i.e., ‘popping’ a tablet or capsule as an afterthought even though the delivery system is not ideal. Another challenge is giving the consumer a reason why advanced dosage forms are more expensive. The cheapest possible way to deliver a supplement is in a compressed tablet or capsule. Unfortunately, the efficacy of the supplement compared to an effervescent delivery system is simply not comparable. Stability is always a concern and adequate studies should always be undertaken to be sure the supplement is as potent at the end of its expiration date as it is the day it was manufactured.” Read entire article…
 

“Delivery Systems: The Devil Is in the Details”

Single-serving effervescents and powder sachets (either packet or stick) are refreshingly different and well accepted by consumers. These two delivery systems are typically stable at room temperature, easily transportable in a pocket or purse, and can be used in a variety of beverages. While effervescents have limited applications, sachets are exceptionally adaptable and can be added to yogurts and other foods, which helps reduce flavor fatigue when faced with consuming a product that is part of a (recommended) daily routine. “Minneapolis-based Airborne acquired by nutrition company”

Minneapolis nutritional supplement maker Airborne Inc. said Monday it has been acquired by Schiff Nutrition International for $150 million. Schiff, based in Salt Lake City, acquired all of Airborne’s stock from GF Capital Private Equity Fund in an all-cash transaction. As part of the deal, Airborne and its 32 workers will shut down Minneapolis operations, said Airborne CEO Marti Morfitt.
